Don’t we all want an escape from our cruel reality? Life is an adventure. But, what if instead of having those goosebumps and chills, all you face is deprivation, despair, and desertion?

The famous writer Agatha Christie once said, “A mother’s love for her child is like nothing else in the world. It knows no law, no pity, it dares all things and crushes down remorselessly all that stands in its path”. This is the life of J.K. Rowling. A motherless mother, who has taught all generations to come: What love means, what friendship means, what sacrifice means and what it means to believe.

She didn’t just give us a magical world. She has given us hope: to imagine the unimaginable. This isn’t a rag to riches story, this is about the pain she felt in her life while she filled our hearts with warmth…

“Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”

A man and a woman met each other for the first time at King’s Cross Station and fell in love. They got married and had their first girl child. This child was born to parents who never went to college. Her father was an aircraft engineer at Rolls Royce and her mother was a high school science technician. Their daughter simply loved to write and they thought writing is just her hobby. But, how could a writer pay the mortgage? Or bring food to the table? What if she’s never able to secure a pension?

At the age of 15, where all teenagers are still discovering their lives…Joanne Rowling found out that her mother has multiple sclerosis while having a strained relationship with her father who she would barely speak to.

Though her personal life was at complete unrest, the British novelist against all odds studied French and read classics in college to follow her dreams. She was nevertheless happy because she knew the universe doesn’t give you what you asked for with your thoughts but it gives you things that you demand with your actions

“Rock bottom became the solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life”

A fresh college graduate, picked up the first decent job she got at a research desk for Amnesty International, doing translation work. After some time, she even worked pathetically as a personal assistant!

One beautiful morning, she received a call from her father telling her that her mother had passed away. The pain of her mother’s passing made her move to Portugal. She hoped that a new environment would change her life. For a while, it even did. She got married to a Portuguese television journalist and after some difficulty even had a daughter named ‘Jessica’.

A victim of domestic abuse, J.K. Rowling with great courage left her husband and decided to move back to Britain. She didn’t just move back with her daughter but also a suitcase filled with scrap papers that had the origin story of Harry Potter written all over them.

It was through her life’s disappointment that Harry Potter was born. Ironic, isn’t it?

“Anything’s possible if you’ve got enough nerve”

A single mother living in Britain. Unemployed. Living on state benefits. Suffering from depression. Having two mouths to feed. And a story to tell.

The philanthropist sat down in cafes while napping her daughter to sleep and wrote the journey of ‘The boy who lived’. She send copies of her books to publishing houses who all rejected them one after another. After 12 rejections, an obscure literary agent accepted her proposal and made a deal with Bloomsbury, which was a very young publishing company at that time. They only ordered 500 copies as an initial supply !

It was less than a year and the book was a major hit. How does her story recite after that? That’s the one we all know. We saw 7 Harry Potter books on the shelves, 8 incredible soul soothing movies. We saw our author taking control of the producers’ chair and giving us more surreal amazing stories to talk and think about!

Was this journey easy for J.K Rowling? She waged a war on all the stones thrown at her. Today she isn’t just an author, she’s a living prowess of wisdom !
