Do you have all the money in the world and still don’t have peace at heart? Do you feel alone at times and there is no one to Rescue you? Do you feel you are never enough?
So did Jim Carrey. One of the biggest comedian on Earth, you may know him from movies like The Mask, Ace Ventura, Bruce Almighty. But what’s really behind that mask. Don’t you wanna know. Here is his Journey of Discovering himself & the genius inside him.
Let’s begin with……
1. If You Give Up Your Dreams, What’s Left?
Carrey’s childhood was a struggle you can’t even imagine. How difficult is it, being an undiagnosed dyslexic? Not having many friends? Struggling with Poverty?
Carrey was a quiet child, struggling with being a sidey and not getting enough attention. What can a person do about that? But then he discovered he could make people laugh with his hilarious impersonations & make friends. He believed making people smile would make him happy & then his journey as a comic began.
What is that one thing in you that really sets you apart? That one thing that is Unique in you? It’s not that difficult. Is it? This will really help you cope up with yourself.
“Everyone is different! Everyone is Unique!”
2. Forget the Pain, Mock the Pain, Reduce it. And Laugh.
Carrey’s father was fired from his accounting job when Carrey was in school. His sick mother, two siblings & his father decided to move to Canada for a better life. But things didn’t turn out as they planned. Exhausted Jim had to work 8 hours a day cleaning Toilets and Mopping Floor after school just so that he could take care of his Sick Mother who was bedridden at the time. Imagine what would happen if your childhood was like his?
He ended dropping out of High School. His family spent months staying a beat-up yellow disgusting tent on campgrounds. So you can imagine his Emotional Baggage. The loss of his teen years feeling intellectually backward, the embarrassment of hardship and Poverty was tough. So how his life changed?
It’s easy, you just need a positive attitude towards life. Some day things will change for you! There is a Silver Lining in everything you do.
“ Positivity is the key to Success”
3. Life Opens up Opportunities to You, and You either take them or you stay afraid of taking them.
Jim was really very afraid of pursuing his dreams as a Comedian. He thought he would take up a Stable Desk Job just like his father. But the universe had a bigger plan for Carrey. His Dad who went through the same phase when he was young advised Carrey to pursue his dream & never give up. One mustn’t be afraid of dreaming bigger, right?
His father was a Once upon a time Comedian as well but he was afraid of dreams & he took an accounting job. What happened? He failed in that as well. He didn’t want his son, Jim to get the same pain ahead in life.
There is no 100% success rate in anything you do. So it’s your choice. You want to dream big & struggle? Or do you wanna struggle to do things you don’t enjoy?
You can fail at what you don’t want so you might as well take a chance on doing what you love.
“Life has two choices: Struggle or Dream & Struggle”
4. I think Everybody should get Rich and Famous and do Everything they ever Dreamed of so they can see that it’s not the Answer.
Carrey started doing stand-ups in Small Bars in Canada. Although he was hilarious & broke, he never surrendered. He worked harder & harder every day. Shortly after he moved “La La Land” or Hollywood as you know it. His struggle was hard due to his personal life baggage as well. Do you get stuck between your Personal & Professional Life?
Don’t worry, everyone does. In 1992, Carrey would drive to Mulholland Drive every night & visualize his success. One of these nights he wrote himself a cheque for 10 Million Dollars for “Acting Services Rendered” which he dated for Thanksgiving, 1995. Just before that he hit a Big Pay Day for his movie, “Dumb & Dumber”. He dreamed & he conquered those dreams. Fascinating, isn’t it?
So many of us choose our path out of fear disguised as practicality. What we really want seems impossibly out of reach & ridiculous to expect, so we never dare to ask the universe for it. It’s time to say no to practicality & dream big. What’s your dream?
“Practicality is the barrier that doesn’t let you dream. It’s time to break it”
Jim Carrey used his set-backs & hard times to motivate the genius inside him to try harder. He could have given up & been an accountant. What about us? Do we sit around fearing about what we lack & blame life for it? Or do we take something we have & make something out of it?
